Advising Appointment Information

Students should meet with their advisor any time they need assistance, but are required to meet with their advisor once a year in the winter or spring to get their new PIN. If you meet in the winter, you can get PIN coupon to get your PIN when available.

To prepare for a Zoology advising appointment:

  1. All students must download and complete the items below before they meet with their advisor. Appointments will be re-scheduled if students are not prepared. Students are responsible for keeping track of their progress and should make a file of these documents and update them for each meeting.
  • Bring a completed Zoology checklist to your appointment. Checklists can be found on the Majors and Minors page.
  • If you are a freshman, your advisor will work with you during your first term to fill out the checklist. It is then your responsibility to come to your subsequent advising appointments with COMPLETED copies of your checklist. Please fill in each course you took for the Baccalaureate Core in the provided blanks. Students should keep their checklist from previous meetings so they can update new courses for each appointment.
  • Look up how Baccalaureate Core Courses count.
  • View your OSU transcript using Student Online Services.
  • Look up when courses are offered through the Schedule of Classes Searcher.
  • Here is a helpful chart showing when Zoology major requirements are "typically" offered.

    2. Bring a year-long plan (in pencil) of what you think you should take for the entire year. Here's a sample Zoology schedule and sample Zo/PVM schedule.

    3. If you are a Pre-Vet student, please bring the Zoology Pre-Vet checklist.

    4. To set up an appointment:

    Zoology Pre-Vet Sophomores  & ALL Zoology Juniors & Seniors: 
    Email your assigned faculty advisor; include the following information:
    • What your major is
    • What class standing you are (freshman, etc.)
    • Student ID #
    • What you would like to meet about
    • Times you can meet in a normal week
