Research & Internships
Research
Students may do research in a Zoology faculty member's lab as a volunteer, for credit, or for pay (either work-study or regular student employee). Students are encouraged to review our list of faculty and their research interests, then contact prospective mentors to arrange a research experience. Volunteering sometimes leads to a paid position.
Z 401 Research is the credit option. Students must arrange their project and work schedule with the faculty mentor. For each 30 hours worked per term, a student is eligible for one credit. Once the mentor has approved, students must contact Traci Durrell-Khalife for a registration override.
Internships
Students may do local internships during the academic year or during summer at such places as a humane society, a vet clinic, a wildlife rehabilitation facilty, or exotic animal breeding facility. Students make their own contacts to prospective mentors and arrange their work schedule. A form must be submitted in order to receive a registration override.
There are also many out-of-state and international internships. The Zoology email listserve is an excellent source of internship information. IE3 Global Internships is an OSU program that facilitates locating international internship opportunities in a variety of countries.
